Global markets question:

Is there a sense in which this is not a ridiculous (attempted) self-fulfilling prophecy that all present should point and laugh at?

(I have much the same question about more general claims that "Weeeell, it's all cyclical, innit?" but these at least tend to stay vague when you question them)
